PESHAWAR, Pakistan — ClinRé Foundation and the Peshawar Institute of Cardiology (PIC-MTI) signed a memorandum of understanding during an institutional visit to PIC on August 7, 2026. The MOU creates a platform for the two organizations to develop high-value collaboration across research, education, workforce and institutional capacity, and cardiovascular health-system improvement.
A leadership dialogue grounded in shared purpose
The visit was hosted by Prof. Syed Shahkar Ahmed Shah, Dean and Chief Executive of PIC-MTI. The ClinRé delegation was led by Dr. Faisal Habib Cheema, President of ClinRé Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of ClinRé, and included Dr. Mohammad Bin Pervez, Vice President; Dr. Hiba Tohid, Pakistan Country Lead; and Shehryar Cheema, an intern visiting from Japan.
PIC departmental leaders joined the working session to discuss areas in which research infrastructure, clinical expertise, digital systems, education, and implementation science could be brought together. The conversation emphasized practical projects that can strengthen local capability while producing evidence relevant to patients, clinicians, health institutions, and communities.
From clinical care to research infrastructure
Prof. Shahkar and PIC colleagues led the delegation through the hospital’s clinical and institutional environment. The visit included operating rooms, catheterization laboratories, inpatient areas, cardiac rehabilitation, information-technology and server infrastructure, research facilities, and the auditorium. These discussions helped identify opportunities for collaboration spanning clinical research, professional education, data and digital infrastructure, patient pathways, and implementation-focused public health work.
A cross-cultural note of goodwill
Shehryar Cheema opened and concluded the proceedings with Japanese greetings and wishes for a productive collaboration, reflecting the international and cross-cultural spirit of the visit. The formal program concluded with the MOU signing and hospitality hosted by PIC.
